How many porta potties do I need? Use the calculator
Start with 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests for a 4-hour event, or 1 per 20 workers on a jobsite. The calculator adds units for longer events, alcohol and food, counts ADA units at 5% per cluster and suggests handwashing stations. Change the numbers to match your event.
Is 1 restroom per 75 people enough?
One restroom per 75 people is a common rule of thumb, and one shelter planner used it when calling us. For events of 4 hours or more, or with food and alcohol, it is too thin; lines form and tanks fill early. We plan 1 per 50 and add more for long days, then recommend a pump-out for overnight use.
- Base: guests ÷ 50, rounded up.
- Over 4 hours: + guests ÷ 100.
- Alcohol: + guests ÷ 100, minimum 1.
- Food: + 1.
- ADA: 5% of total, minimum 1 (ADA 213.2).
- Sinks: 1 per 4 toilets.
Worked example (hypothetical): 120 guests, 6 hours, bar: 3 + 2 + 2 = 7 toilets including 1 ADA, plus 2 sinks.
