What do people ask before renting a porta potty?
People ask about price first, then delivery speed, then cleaning and placement. We collected 27 questions from recorded calls to rental desks in 2026, kept the callers' wording, and answered each one the way our dispatchers do. Jump to a topic below.
From our call log: in 7 recorded calls to our desk, 4 asked the price, 2 needed same-day delivery, 2 objected to the delivery fee, and 1 asked for an ADA unit. Questions from a second set of recorded calls are included too.

Price and fees: questions from real calls
Price questions came up on most recorded calls. Callers asked for the unit price, the delivery fee, whether a short job pays for a month, and whether a discount was possible. Here is each question in the caller's own words, with the answer we give today.
“How much is the porta potty?”
4 of 7 callers
A standard event unit was quoted at $243 in our recent calls, and a jobsite unit at $243 for up to a month with weekly cleaning. Delivery and pickup are one separate fee: $81 for a scheduled weekend drop and $103 for a same-day jobsite run. Card payments add a small fee, and tax depends on the address.
“What is the porta potty and what is the delivery fee?”
Asked on a same-day call
We always split the two. The unit price covers the rental. The delivery fee covers both truck trips, drop-off and pickup. A rush fee is added only for same-day service. One roofing crew asked for this split before deciding, and it made two yards' quotes easy to compare.
“How much is the delivery fee for tomorrow?”
Asked on a same-day call
Next-day delivery uses the standard delivery fee, with no rush charge. In one recorded call, a yard quoted $45 for next-day delivery against a $227 same-day emergency fee for the same unit. If your crew can wait a day, next-day is almost always the cheaper choice.
“Can you not do $45 for today delivery?”
Asked on a same-day call
Usually not. The same-day rush fee pays for pulling a truck off its planned route, so it costs more than a scheduled delivery. What dispatch can do is check a closer yard or waive the fuel fee. That cut one same-day quote from about $451 to $357.
“Even if I take it for three days, you're charging me for the full month?”
Asked on a same-day call
For jobsite units, the price is one flat rental that covers up to a month, with weekly cleaning. Three days costs the same as four weeks. That is why most crews keep the unit for the whole job. For a true one-day event, an event rental priced for the event can fit better.
“Is the price per day or for the whole time?”
Common on event calls
The price is for the whole rental, never per day. An event quote covers drop-off, the event and pickup, including a Friday-to-Monday weekend. A jobsite quote covers up to a month. Ask dispatch to confirm the included days on the quote so there are no surprises.
“I thought they were like a hundred and a quarter.”
Price objection
Prices around $125 usually leave out delivery and pickup, or come from large government contracts. A Carrollton event unit with both truck trips came to $324 in a recent quote: $243 for the unit and $81 for drop-off and pickup. Ask any company for the all-in number.
“Is there a price difference between event and construction units?”
Asked before booking
Yes. Event units are kept for events, arrive extra clean and are priced for the event. Construction units are priced as one flat rental for up to a month with weekly cleaning. For a party, book an event unit. For a 3-day job, a construction unit is often better value.
“Can you give me a discount?”
Asked on 2 calls
Sometimes. Dispatch can check with a manager, waive the fuel fee, or compare a closer yard. Churches, nonprofits, tax-exempt agencies and multi-unit orders are the best candidates. Tax-exempt groups should send their certificate so tax comes off the invoice.
Delivery and pickup: questions from real calls
Delivery questions were about speed and timing: same-day, weekend drops, time windows, whether to be on site and how pickup works. These answers reflect how dispatch actually routes trucks from our Carrollton yard, including the limits on weekend drivers.
“Can you deliver one today?”
2 of 7 callers
Often, yes. Dispatch checks which trucks are already routed near your address and whether one has a unit on board. If so, we quote the rush fee and book it while you are on the phone. Same-day units arrive during the day, without a set time window.
“Can you deliver on Saturday and pick up Sunday or Monday?”
Weekend event call
Weekend drivers are limited, so weekend events usually get a Friday drop-off and a Monday pickup at no extra cost. The unit is in place before your guests arrive and gone the next business day. Tell dispatch your event start time so the Friday drop fits.
“Can you schedule a time frame?”
Common question
We can note a preference, like before noon, but we cannot promise an exact time, because routes shift through the day. For events we deliver the day before so timing never puts the event at risk. For same-day jobsite drops, keep a site contact reachable by phone.
“Do I need to be there for the delivery?”
Common question
No. Mark the spot with a cone, ribbon or sign on flat ground the truck can reach, leave the gate or alley open, and add notes to the order. The driver can call ahead if you want a heads-up before arrival.
“Do I have to call for a pickup, or will they just come back?”
Common question
Event units are picked up on the date set in the order, usually the next business day. Jobsite and monthly units are picked up when you call, so call a day or two before the job ends. That keeps you from starting another month you do not need.
“So you will give me a call back today?”
3 of 7 calls went to callback
Yes. When a sales rep is on another line, we take your details and call back during business hours, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM. For same-day needs, say so on the first call so dispatch checks trucks right away.
Units, cleaning and placement: questions from real calls
Unit questions covered cleaning, ADA access, sinks, locks, size, backyard gates, pump-outs and how many trailers to order. Each answer below gives the practical fact first, then the condition that changes it, so you can choose the right unit on the first call.
“How often do I get cleaning service on this?”
Asked on a jobsite call
Jobsite and monthly rentals get a weekly clean: pumping, washing, deodorizing and restocking paper and sanitizer. Event units arrive clean and stocked for the event. Extra cleanings are available for heavy use or multi-day events, and they are quoted before we schedule them.
“Do you have handicap accessible?”
Church event call
Yes, we rent ADA accessible units with level entry, grab bars and room to turn a wheelchair. Stock is smaller than standard units and goes fast on church and festival weekends, so book ADA units early. Events open to the public need at least one per cluster.
“Does the standard one have hand sanitizer or a washing station?”
Common question
A standard unit has a hand sanitizer dispenser, toilet paper and a urinal, but no sink. For running water, add a two-sided handwashing station outside the unit or choose a deluxe flushable unit with a sink inside. Food events should always add a sink.
“Does it come with a lock? It will be out in public.”
Common question
Every unit has an inside latch with an occupied sign. For units left in public overnight, ask for a hasp so you can add your own padlock. Tell dispatch on the order and the driver will bring it.
“Is the premium unit larger than the standard porta potty?”
Party upgrade call
Slightly. A deluxe or premium unit has a bit more room inside for the foot-pump sink, and a flushing cabin is larger still. If space is the main concern, an ADA unit is the roomiest single unit we rent.
“Can you put it in my backyard? Does the gate have to be large?”
Common question
A standard unit fits through most normal backyard gates, carried upright. The truck needs to park within about 15 feet of the spot for cleaning, so very deep backyards may not work. Restroom trailers need a wide, straight path and usually stay on the driveway.
“Do you provide pump-out services?”
Business account call
Yes. We pump out restroom trailers, holding tanks and units for existing customers on a schedule or on request. Business accounts can book pump-outs through their account manager. Tell us the tank size and location when you call.
“How many restroom trailers would you recommend?”
Emergency agency call
For an event, plan 1 stall per 50 people for up to 4 hours and more for long days. For a shelter running around the clock, plan at least 1 stall per 50 people, add handwashing stations near food, and schedule daily pump-outs. A 2-room trailer counts as 2 stalls.
Booking and payment: questions from real calls
Booking questions were about deposits, cancellation, payment and getting a rough price before committing. These answers match our rental terms, so what you read here is what you will see on the invoice and the signed order.
“Do I put down a deposit?”
Common question
We take payment by card when you book, which locks in the unit and the truck. Business accounts can ask about invoicing. The quote shows the card fee, and you get an invoice by text or email to review and sign.
“If we need to cancel, how does that policy work?”
Common question
Cancel or reschedule at least 24 business hours before delivery for a full refund. Same-day orders cannot be cancelled once a truck is dispatched. Once a unit is delivered, the rental has started. Full details are in our rental terms.
“Can I pay the driver by check?”
Common question
Payment is taken by card when you book, not by the driver. Major cards are accepted, including American Express, with a small card fee. Tax-exempt organizations should send their certificate with the order.
“Can you roughly tell me what it might cost?”
Homeowner call
Yes. Give dispatch the address or ZIP, dates, number of units and whether it is an event or a job, and you get a real number on the call, split into unit, delivery and any extra fees. If a rep has to call you back, ask for the same breakdown.
What will dispatch ask you?
Dispatch asks ten quick questions so the quote is right the first time: event or job, who you are, dates, start time, address, units, sinks, access, how to reach you and who meets the driver. Having these ready turns a callback into a booked order on the first call.
- Is it for an event or a construction job?
- Are you a homeowner, a business or a contractor?
- What date do you need it, and for how long?
- What time does your event start?
- What is the delivery address or ZIP code?
- How many units, and do you need an ADA unit?
- Do you need a handwashing station?
- Is there a gate code, alley or loading dock?
- What is the best way to reach you: call, text or email?
- Who is the site contact for the driver?
